Our Impact

Turning Heartbreak into Hope

Through our AED donation program, we're turning our mission into reality, one device at a time. Read on to see our recent work in local communities.

Giving Back to Our Beginning: Carlinville, IL Park District

In 2022 the NPS Memorial Foundation was able to donate AED devices directly to the Carlinville Park District, the small Illinois town where Nick and his siblings were raised. Thanks to generous donors and supporters, the very same parks Nick and his brother, Joe, played at as kids are now prepared for the worst. The Foundation donated two AED devices – one to Loveless Park, and one to the Carlinville Public Pool – two places the Sauer kids spent most of their childhood summers.

Empowering School Safety in Jacksonville, IL

The Nicholas Patrick Sauer Memorial Foundation donated Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to Routt Catholic High School and Our Savior's Grade School in Jacksonville, Illinois. Each school received AEDs for their athletic fields, significantly enhancing emergency preparedness during sporting events. These life-saving devices can dramatically improve survival rates during sudden cardiac emergencies, providing peace of mind to students, coaches, and families while creating safer environments for young athletes throughout the Jacksonville community.

Supporting the Winchester, IL Police Department

The Nicholas Patrick Sauer Memorial Foundation donated three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the Winchester Police Department, equipping each of their squad cars with this life-saving technology. This donation significantly enhances the department's ability to respond to cardiac emergencies throughout the community. The contribution has special significance as the Sauer family has deep roots in Winchester, with both John and Lisa Sauer having grown up there and many extended family members still residing in Scott County.

Enhancing Safety at Historic Macoupin County Fairgrounds

Continuing the mission of The Nicholas Patrick Sauer Memorial Foundation, three Automated External Defibrillators, two indoor metal alarm boxes, and one specialized outdoor unit with climate-controlled housing were donated to the Macoupin County Fairgrounds in Carlinville, IL. These strategically placed devices ensure life-saving equipment is accessible throughout the 40-acre complex during the annual fair and year-round events including agricultural programs, tractor pulls, and youth activities. This contribution strengthens emergency response capabilities at Illinois' oldest fairgrounds, creating a safer environment for thousands of visitors.

Donations to Equestrian Non-profit Mounted Angels

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and backpack carrying case have been donated to Mounted Angels Therapeutic Horsemanship in Pearl, IL. This contribution enhances safety measures at their facilities, where children with physical, emotional, and intellectual challenges receive free horseback riding therapy. The AED provides crucial protection for vulnerable participants, volunteers, and staff at this community-supported organization that helps children develop strength, balance, and confidence through therapeutic riding experiences in Western Illinois. For information about Mounted Angels Therapeutic Horsemanship, or to explore volunteer opportunities, visit mountedangels.org.
